Hi!

The Love ListWell, this week was busy right to the end! I’m so glad that Friday is here, and I’m surprised at how quickly September has seemed to gone by {where does time go?!}. Anyhoo, I’m loving…

Woats Oatsnacks1 ♥ Woats! Granola, as I shared here, is one of my favorite snacks, whether I eat straight out of the bag or top my yogurt with it. I like to switch it up from time to time, though, so Woats Oatsnacks was a welcome change of pace! I tried the Cookies ‘n’ Dream flavor, and it absolutely delicious. I have yet to try the Peanut Butter Grand Slam and Nuts About Berries flavors, but you can be sure I will be trying them soon enough! {That’s a cue for you to try them too.}

The Amazing Race2 ♥ The Amazing Race The first episode of The Amazing Race is always a good one; it’s fun to pick your favorites out of all of the new teams! Tonight is the premiere of the 25th {?!} season, and the eleven pairs this time around have me excited. At the moment, I’m rooting for Bethany Hamilton and her husband, Adam Dirks, as well as the “Sweet Scientists” pair, Maya Warren and Amy De Jong, but of course, anything could change with one episode. Will you be tuning in tonight to watch?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest3 ♥ One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest My play to musical ratio is sadly low {that’s a thing, right?! :)}, so I am excited that I can add one more to my list after tonight! I am going to see a production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and although my knowledge extends only to a quick Wikipedia session, I think it will be entertaining – or at the very least, interesting – to watch. Have you seen the play or read the original book?

Girls' Life October November 20144 ♥ Girls’ Life October/November 2014 Issue While I love reading books, there are times when I am just in the mood for a magazine. The Girls’ Life October/November issue came out at the perfect time, and it definitely delivered. From the inventive, tasty-looking recipes to the gorgeously styled “All Who Wander” fashion shoot, I will be giving it another read-through this weekend.

One Lovely Blog Award{via}

The One Lovely Blog Award Finally, I want to thank An Overthinking Teenager for awarding me The One Lovely Blog Award. I didn’t take the time to go through all of the “rules”  {it’s been a long couple of days}, but it sure did make my week! :)

Have an amazing start to your weekend!

Hi!

The Love ListI’ve started my last school vacation before summer, and I couldn’t be happier! I love kicking off a break right. Anyhoo, I’m loving…

Twenty Feet From Stardom1 ♥ 20 Feet From Stardom I watched this amazing documentary a few weeks ago with my family, and I am still surprised and impressed with it! I truly wasn’t expecting to enjoy the film as much as I did. The movie provided a fascinating and unique look at the lives of backup singers; it also included interviews with famous performers, such as Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder. Having little knowledge on the topic before, I loved learning a bit more about the people who add so much to popular music.

Wheat Thins Popped

2 ♥ Wheat Thins Popped I have been snacking on these all week long! There’s not much to say other than that they are one of my new food obsessions :) I love packing a few for lunch or for a mid-rehearsal snack break.

OPI Brazil Collection3 ♥ Brazil Collection by OPI While I am still waiting for temperatures to warm up beyond 60, I also know that it will be summer before I know it. The current collections for sale in stores have been no help either, as everything seems to be extremely summer-y! Case in point? OPI’s “Brazil” collection, made up of gorgeous peaches and pinks, a fun yellow, and a bold turquoise, to name just a few. My mom picked a few polishes at the store to use as goodies for my family’s annual egg hunt and, because I didn’t end up with one today, I feel a trip back to Ulta is in order.

Good Books{there’s no more accurate statement! from HERE}

4Library Hauls I honestly think there is no better feeling than leaving the library with lots of new books to be read! With my school vacation this week and all, I stocked up on plenty of new reads, and I hope to get to a lot of them this week! Have you read any of the following? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts! I snagged…

  • To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
  • The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith
  • Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy
  • Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
  • Greetings from the Graveyard by Kate and Sarah Klise

Easter Bunny

5 ♥ Easter Finally, I am looking forward to celebrating Easter on Sunday! We’re keeping it low-key, which is how I like it best :) Have a most fabulous weekend! {That cute clip art, by the way is from The Jones Design Company HERE.}

Chocolate Cranberry Scones

Hello!

Chocolate-Cranberry-Scones-1I think it’s a universal fact that cranberry anything tastes best in November. Is it just me?! Truly, though, I love using cranberries in baked goods this time of year. {Cranberry Relish remains an old favorite!} So, when my mom bought a bag of them this past weekend, I knew I had to find something scrumptious to use them for! I stumbled upon a recipe for Cranberry Scones by Martha Stewart. I often find that you can never go wrong with a Martha recipe, and this one sure lived up to that expectation. The dough held together beautifully, and the colors make for a wonderful presentation. There was nothing wrong with the original recipe, but with my family, chocolate is a necessary addition :) Finally, cranberries and orange are such a winning combination, thus I added orange zest to my topping. What are your take on cranberries, friends?

Chocolate-Cranberry-Scones-2{fresh out of the oven!}

Chocolate Cranberry Scones Adapted from Martha Stewart

ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 2/3 cup plus 1 tablespoons half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup cranberries
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips {more or less based on your preferences}

for the topping

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon half-and-half

to make

  1. Preheat oven to 425ºF.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter with a pastry blender or two knives. The mixture should resemble course crumbs.
  4. Stir in the 1/2 cup half-and-half until moistened. Fold in the cranberries and chocolate with a rubber spatula.
  5. If your dough is not holding together, add in 1 more tablespoon of half-and-half. I found that this extra moisture did wonders!
  6. Grease a baking sheet.
  7. Knead the dough on the baking sheet, and roll flat into a 1-inch thick rounded shape.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges, and separate. Brush with one tablespoon half-and-half, and then sprinkle with mixed sugar and orange zest.
  9. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Your house will smell lovely at this point! :)
  10. Let cool, and enjoy.

Have a terrific night! I am so excited for the return of Glee.
