Anyhoo, I’m loving…

georgetown cupcakes

Last week, at the big Boden sale, my mom, sister, and I stopped into Georgetown Cupcakes to get a little post-shopping treat! I have had plenty of cupcakes this summer, so it has been fun to compare, and these are right near the top. I tried two different flavors, Neapolitan and Ice Cream Sundae, and they were both oh-so yummy! The frosting and cake were superb. If you have any location near you, definitely take the time to visit!

boden’s winter preview

I know it feels like just yesterday, I was so excited over all the autumn lines coming out in stores, but now I am giddy over Boden’s Winter 2013 line! It will be a while before I will ever need to wear these, but one can dream, right? :) A few of my favorite pieces are shown above. Clockwise, from top left, the Olivia Top has long been one of my faves, but I adore the new pattern it was released in! It will be wonderful for the winter to spring transition. The Bella Day Dress, besides for its awesome name, is another new fave of mine. The colors are so pretty! The Pippa Printed Top has such a fun and whimsical patter {hot air balloons! what could be better?}, and finally, the Cable Sweater makes me think of warm, cozy winter nights. seventeen’s september 2013 issue

Lily Collins is on the cover for Seventeen this month, and I think she was a good pick! She is starring in Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which came out today, and I can already predict that she will be in many more movies in the upcoming year. Here were the other articles I enjoyed…

  • 40 hair ideas Need I say anymore? I am always on the lookout for new hair styles/ideas, so this article is a huge resource!
  • instagram-worthy lunches I have been trying to get creative with my lunch lately just to switch things up for back-to-school, and this had some great ideas!
  • for you! I love this new section that is totally customized to you! They had a lot of good makeup tips depending on your skin tone and hair ideas depending on your hair length.

a subtle revelry’s chalkboard cake

I think this is just the coolest thing. Candy chalk, which is a brand new invention to me, was used to create this adorable cake. The dessert would be wonderful for a back-to-school party! I can already see so many possibilities with the use of candy chalk. It would be so fun to doodle on it at a sleepover, or leave a nice message at a party, for example.

Finally, I am having a little bonfire tonight with friends, and no summer get-together is complete without s’mores. Who knew all of the history behind the beloved treat? I’m hoping to try out some new combinations – such as using cookies and cream chocolate bars and adding strawberries! It’s sure to be fun, and it’s prefect to celebrate the upcoming Toast a Marshmallow day next week :) If you would like to make some s’mores related recipes, here are a few to get you started: S’mores Brownies, S’mores Marshmallows, and S’mores Muffins.

Have a lovely start to your weekend!

loving >> week 86

Busy, busy week! I started this fun art class on Monday that continues into next week, and, of course, I had to celebrate my birthday! But, hands down, the best news of the week was that Morgan Matson is writing another BOOK! Isn’t that exciting?! Anyhoo, I’m loving…

draw your own alphabets: thirty fonts to scribble, sketch, and make your own

For my birthday earlier this week, I received this amazing book by artist and designer, Tony Seddon. The book focuses on thirty typefaces, and goes into great detail about each one, including the “anatomy” of the font, other typefaces that pair well with it, and even extra tips when writing it! The fonts are so fun and easy enough to do, but I also like that there is a range in difficulty, so I can work up to the more challenging ones. I totally recommend this book, especially when paired with quality lettering pens! :)

you are my fave’s typography party week

As evidenced above, I LOVE typography, so I have really enjoyed You Are My Fave’s type-themed party week! All week-long, Melanie has been sharing fun activities and decorations that use type in a creative way, such as party headbands that spell out cheerful messages or balloons that use Helvetica to say “Happy Birthday!” I really like how simple and quick these projects are because we all know how time seems to slip away when you are the hostess :)

j.crew’s fall 2013 releases

{from top left, clockwise: bar-stripe teegirls’ peplum toptissue long sleeve tee, and girls’ printed scarf}

Huge J.Crew fan girl that I am, I have been swooning over all of J.Crew’s pieces from their recent autumn releases! I love all of the colors, and I can’t wait to get a few items to build my back-to-school wardrobe. I am always on the lookout for simple tees that still make a statement, so the Bar-Stripe Tee was right up my alley. Peplum is trendy, but it looks like it’s lasting! I love the addition of polka-dots. Basic tops are always needed, but deep jewel colors make them a bit more interesting. Finally, I love the whimsical fox print on the Printed Scarf. Wouldn’t that be fun for fall?!

city girl cupcake

Birthdays call for cupcakes, without a doubt. This year, I decided to try City Girl Cupcake’s oh-so delicious treats, and I am so happy I did! I tried two flavors – Chocolate Lava and Ice Cream Sundae – and they were very, very yummy :) I will definitely go back, and I totally suggest trying their cupcakes out if you are in the New England area.

guilty as charged

Because we ALL need a reminder, right? I will keep this in mind once September hits because stress piles up quickly, and we can all agree that stress is no fun.

Have a wonderful night!

Monster Cupcakes

Monsters can be scary, but I prefer to make them cute! :) For my sister’s birthday {you could call it a month-long celebration} I made her oh-so adorable Halloween-themed cupcakes. With basic cupcake mix, a tried-and-true recipe for buttercream frosting, and some simple candy items, you can make mummies, ghosts, and some one-eyed friends. I love the idea of having these for a party, but you could also make them for family on Halloween night. Add some sprinkled cupcakes to complete the palette, and you’re all set!

Monster Cupcakes Loosely based off the idea from the September/October 2012 issue of American Girl

  • 18 to 24 cupcakes {see here for more info on that.}
  • 1 recipe white buttercream frosting
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Cocoa powder
  • Large chocolate chips
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Red M&M’s
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Halloween themed sprinkles

to make the mummies

  1. Using a quarter of the frosting, frost 1/4 of the cupcakes.
  2. Gently add two red M&M’s for eyes.
  3. Make a mouth with chocolate chips.

to make the ghosts

  1. Frost one-fourth of the cupcakes with the frosting.
  2. Use two mini chocolate chips for eyes.
  3. Place a large chocolate chip below the eyes for a mouth. {It’s screaming, see?! :)}

to make the one-eyed monster friends

  1. Combine 1/4 of the buttercream frosting with drops of red and blue food dye. Mix until you get your desired purple.
  2. Frost another 1/4 of your cupcakes.
  3. Stick a mini chocolate chips in a marshmallow to create an eye.
  4. Stick the eye in the middle of the cupcake and create a mouth with chocolate chips.

to make the sprinkled cupcakes

  1. Finally, take the remaining frosting and mix it with desired amount of cocoa powder.
  2. Frost the rest of the cupcakes and add the sprinkles!

Have a lovely day!

Bella :)
