Font FreebiesAs I look back over the stories I read, the characters I met, and the authors I discovered this year, an additional element stands out: the covers of the books themselves! The releases from the past twelve month are rich with examples of excellent artistic direction, from the minimalistic beauty Girl in Pieces to the captivating photograph gracing If I Was Your Girl. I’d happily frame any of them on my bedroom wall, and furthermore, designing book covers seems all the more appealing of a career :) {Psst. If you’re just as big of a cover fanatic as I, pop on over to The Novel Hermit, where Cee has created a set of awards devoted solely to covers of YA books}.

With so much inspiration at my fingertips – or better said, in my bookshelf – I felt it was time for another round of Font Freebies, a series in which I share my favorite downloads from designers around the web. I’ve collected many a font as of late, including Regina Black {who can resist its “friendly, meet funky” design?} and Queen of Heaven {the script letterforms are a delight}. What creative typefaces have you been using this month?

Font FreebiesI saw a tweet recently that compared August as the “Sunday of summer,” and to a point, I agree – especially when you walk into Staples or Target with back to school sales in full swing! Even so, while I’m not one to rush my vacation away, I will admit to loving the planning that goes into returning to school: shopping for a few new pieces, lining up pens and pencils, and setting up my binders and notebooks for the new year. I downloaded several fonts for use on my binder covers, and was then inspired to share them in another edition of Font Freebies.

For new readers, this feature was born out of my love of all things graphic design, allowing me to share my favorite free fonts from around the internet. While I’ve put all of the typefaces below to good use, I’m digging DK Abeille {I love the subtle bounce in the characters} and KG Satisfied {You can’t go wrong with another handwritten script font} in particular. Have you downloaded any fun typefaces recently?

Font FreebiesI’ll cut right to the chase, friends: I miss blogging! I’ll be in and out here on Ciao Bella as I finish out the school year, but you can be sure that come summer vacation, I plan to blog and read the days away {not literally, of course, but one can dream!}.

Until then, however, I think a new edition of Font Freebies is in order. If you’re just popping into the blog, the feature is as the name suggests: I round up some of the fonts that have recently caught my eye, all for your downloading pleasure. There are plenty of good-looking typefaces to go around, but I, like any art and design fan, do have my favorites: Garden Gnome, because the name alone brings a smile to my face {not to mention its playful bounce!} and Steelworks, because I could spend all day experimenting with its added swashes. Have you used any creative fonts lately? How is May looking on your end? :)
