Chocolate Chip Cookies with Sea Salt Loosely adapted from Homemade Decadence by Joy Wilson {I LOVE this cookbook, if you haven’t noticed :)}


  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • Sea salt or kosher salt, for sprinkling

to make

  1. Beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Stir in the egg and vanilla.
  2. Mix in the flours, baking soda, and salt on low speed until just incorporated.
  3. Use a wooden spoon to stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Scoops out tablespoons of dough and place on the sheets in four rows of four. Sprinkle sea salt or kosher salt on top of each mound of dough.
  6. Chill the cookie balls for one to two hours.
  7. While the cookies are in the fridge, preheat the oven to 350ºF.
  8. Bake until the cookies are golden brown, twelve to fifteen minutes.
  9. Let the cookies cool on a wire rack, and enjoy!
