my top nine 2014 debuts

Hi!

Happy Monday! I mean, it’s hard not to be happy when we’re discussing all of the lovely debuts coming out this year. I have already mentioned the other 2014 releases I can’t wait to read, but for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday {hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish and like always, done on a Monday because it keeps me on schedule}, the list is specifically for books coming out this year by authors who have not been published before. I think reading debuts is so fun; there can be some real hidden gems in there! More often than not, if I like the debut, I am usually anxious for more by the author. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Anyhoo, here are the nine debuts I’m excited about…

Under the EggYes! Yes! Yes! I feel this one will be a winner just from the very description. It’s an art mystery {and middle grade}, which is a genre that I LOVE. Having read and adored From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler as a kid, I am excited to see how this book compares.

Slide2This sounds like a  moving novel, and I can’t wait to see what I think of it. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it is about a girl who is told she is going to die from cancer, so she tries to complete everything on her bucket list. The thing is, she actually doesn’t die in the end. Interesting scenario, right?!

Slide3I’ve heard a lot about this one, and from everything I’ve read, it seems right up my alley. Already being compared to spy novels such as Heist Society {which, if you’ve read my reviews here and here, you know I’m a fan!}, it’s about a con artist with plans that go wrong.

Slide4I’m truly in love with this cover. It is a refreshing change of pace, using a bright, uncommon purple for the background, and an unusual, but extremely effective, font treatment for the title. Cover aside, the story sounds adorable too! The main character’s name is Heart. From there, my attention is already grabbed :)

Slide5Here’s another debut with a fun cover treatment! With this book, it’s the bright, summer-y colors that first caught my eye. The early copies have received rave reviews so far, so I imagine the final novel will be just as good.

Slide6There are so many good books coming out this spring and summer, and Open Road Summer is just one of them! This book was one that I was convinced to look into after hearing about it on so many book blogs. Even one of my favorite authors, Elizabeth Eulberg, has a quote in the synopsis! I’m excited.

Slide7Doesn’t this one just scream the perfect summer read? I tend to go for low-key, or more “fluffy” books, for a lack of a better term, in the summer, and I can already tell you that My Faire Lady will be on the top of that list!

Something RealSomething Real tackles an interesting topic, especially in today’s society – reality TV. There’s plenty of drama already on actual television, so I’m interested to see how the subject translates to book form. And that cover? I’m loving the bright colors. If I hadn’t put this on my TBR list already, the cover treatment would have definitely persuaded me to do so.

A Mad Wicked FollyFinally, although I am not always the biggest fan of historical fiction, I am actually looking forward to reading A Mad, Wicked Folly! Set in 1909, it tells the story of a girl expelled from French finishing school. I’m sure reviews of this will be popping up on blogs soon, as it comes out on the 23rd this month.

What debuts can’t you wait to read?

B :)

    • It’s hard, I know! I am so grateful that my library keeps pretty up-to-date with new books. My reading habits would be very different otherwise! Thanks for commenting :)

  1. Great list! I’m so excited for so many of these and a few made my list too. Side Effects May Vary looks so good, I can’t wait for that one! There seems to be so many good books coming out in 2014, I’m not sure where I’ll find the time to read them all. I hope you get to all of your picks :) My TTT.
