Brownies are a timeless dessert. Quick and easy to make, there is really no reason why you shouldn’t whip up a batch! You can easily change the recipe to fit your taste, with a few simple steps. Melt some chocolate and frost or drizzle the brownies with it. Top them with M&M’s. Mix in a type of nuts. The possibilities are endless! To end up with a tasty result, make sure not to over cook the batter. Your brownies should be moist and chewy. These will satisfy any age, especially the chocolate lovers! These go so quickly {with an older brother, the entire batch is gone in two to three days ;)} that I have always doubled the original recipe. If you do not have an older brother, or you don’t want more than thirty brownies, divide the ingredient amounts in half.

Brownies Adapted from Better Homes and Gardens

  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 12 tablespoons cocoa powder*
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil*
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

to make

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Stir together butter, cocoa powder, and oil.
  3. Add sugar and eggs.
  4. Mix in flour.
  5. Grease a 13 by 9 inch baking pan.
  6. Spread batter in pan.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes.
  8. Let cool in pan before cutting into bars. {However weird it may sound, a pizza cutter works well for this step.}
  9. Delicious!

Bella :)

* I have never used actual chocolate in brownies, but if you prefer it to cocoa powder, you will need four ounces of chocolate to replace the cocoa powder and oil.
