Things That Say A Lot

I read this poem a while back, and it has continued to stick with me. So, tonight, I thought I would share a little more about myself. Everything is completely random, but why shouldn’t we get to know our fellow bloggers better? :) If you want to leave your own answers, feel free to do a similar post on your blog, or even leave your responses in the comments!

“things that say a lot about people:
the way in which they treat the waiter/waitress
how they feel about the weather
whether they dog ear pages or highlight in books
fingernails
and hands in general
their preferred creative outlet
how much they dread/enjoy talking on the phone
whether or not they drink coffee
if they ever forget to eat
how honest they are with themselves (and others)
if they correct your grammar
and whether or not they get nervous before haircuts.”

1 // I treat waiters and waitresses with the respect I think anybody deserves. I am on the cautious side – there’s no need to share every detail of your life, but I know for a fact that a sincere thank you and a smile can go a long way. It bugs me when people treat anyone who works at a restaurant or café, or retail in general for that matter, like they are below them. They have a job to do, and I just wish some certain people would come to realize that.

2 // My favorite weather would have to be gray, rainy days. I do love sunshine, especially in the summer, but currently, overcast days inspire and motivate me. I do love a cold, wintery night too. Nothing can beat reading a book under layers and layers of blankets. Cold and heat extremes and I do not do well, on the other hand. We don’t need below zero degrees or close to 100 degrees, now do we?

I could really ramble on forever :)

3 // I am all sorts of OCD with my books. Dog-ears and highlighting just aren’t going to happen. When I do find a quote that I like, it’s marked and written down later.

4 // Ooh. Fingernails. I try to keep my fresh with nail polish every week, but for right now, they are polish-free with extremely dry cuticles. No fun.

5 // Hands. Hmmm. Mine are dry, but I do like my longer fingers. I am constantly amazed at how much we rely on our abilities to touch and grab things in our everyday lives. What would happen if we couldn’t use our hands at all for a day?

6 // Creativity and a way to express myself make up a huge part of my life. Whenever the need for a creative outlet occurs, I often find myself writing up blog posts, scribbling down short stories, or designing something on the computer or the old-fashioned way – with a good old pencil and paper :)

7 // I don’t particularly enjoy talking on the phone, but I don’t hate it all together. I won’t be the one to call up a friend to talk for an hour. I prefer to converse face-to-face, and when needed to, through texts.

8 // I have never tried coffee, and I don’t really want to at the moment. I want to try out tea though, so suggestions are welcome :)

9 // Forgetting to eat is pretty impossible for me. Having Type One Diabetes doesn’t really let me to miss lunch or forget breakfast.

10 // I try to be pretty honest with myself, but sometimes {especially when it comes to things out of my control or are absolutely crazy to think} I can stress myself out. With others, though, I can be honest, but I always try my best to do it in the nicest way possible.

11 // I correct people’s grammar all the time, it is not even funny. It’s not always to their face, but mentally, I do it all. day. long.

12 // I am totally fine with haircuts. It’s after the actual appointment when I begin to regret it. I’m growing it longer now, however, so that means a lot less haircuts for me!

Have a lovely night!

A big hello to twenty-thirteen

Happy New Year 2013!

{via}

Happy New Year’s, everyone!

Anyhoo, I just wanted to say that I am so, so thankful for this little blog of mine, and everyone who has every supported it. This has become my creative outlet, and I’m very excited to see where it goes in the next year. With that being said, these are my goals for Ciao Bella in 2013.

  • comment more! // I am so bad at commenting {and even liking} so I really hope to make some time to comment on my favorites, as well as find some newer blogs every week or so.
  • finalize ciao bella‘s “image” // I have struggled a bit with the look and feel of the blog in the past, so my goal is to really figure out how I want it to look and then put my idea to work!
  • make more of social media // I’m hoping to set up a Twitter for the blog and I would love to share my Pinterest with you all too! :)
  • work with other writers // Guest posts and author interviews have caught my interest lately, so I think looking into those is a must. That brings me to the final resolution…
  • set up a way to communicate with my readers // Comments aren’t enough to fully have conversations. In the next few weeks, I’ll be setting up a blog email so it’s easier to communicate!

My word for 2013 is “be,” which resonates both in my personal life and on here. I want to be creative, original, spontaneous, kind, healthy, confident, and honest. I want to be in the moment, instead of thinking too far ahead or going back into the past. I want to be passionate about my work, and be a glass half-full person.

What’s your word for the new year?

an a to z of thanks

An Anthology of Thanks | Hannah NicoleTomorrow is Thanksgiving. Let that sink in. In just a few weeks, it will be Christmas, and the holiday season will be over! Where does time go?! Anyhoo, Hannah Nicole made a nice little post and let anyone link up. Of course, I wanted to join! So, to celebrate Turkey Day, I’ve compiled a list of things I’m thankful for, from A to Z.

art classes, which I am so very lucky to do.
books, both the favorites lined up on my bookshelf and the ones still waiting to be read.
cookies, cupcakes, and other sweet treats that I love to bake and share.
doctors, for helping me to manage my diabetes. {plus my parents, who have been a humongous support system as well.}
education. I’m so, so thankful that I am able to get one, and a good one at that!
family and friends, who are the best people in the entire universe.
glee, which never fails to make my Thursday :)
home. I am such a homebody.
inspiration from fellow bloggers, images, and quotes.
joy from basically anything and anyone.
kisses and hugs.
late nights staying up.
magazines, because I like them. a lot.
natural beauty, because it’s what on the inside that counts, although I sometimes struggle to remember that.
open doors for my future. I’m very excited for it.
photography and other forms of self-expression.
quiet afternoons, where I can do anything with no schoolwork hanging over my head.
recent movie previews.
smiling, because it can always make another person’s day brighter.
theater. my school’s drama program is amazing and I don’t know where I’d be without the friends and connections I’ve made through it.
USA. the freedom we receive is something I will always be grateful for.
vanilla frozen yogurt.
winter. the festive holiday celebrations, the quietness, as well as the beauty of the first snow fall.
eXperiences that I will never forget.
yoga, for helping me through a busy year and getting rid of all that yucky stress.
zzz’s, which are often unappreciated, yet much-needed.

Have a wonderful pumpkin-pie filled Thanksgiving!

Bella :)

Psst. I’ll be spending the day with family tomorrow, but check back on Friday for another Love List!

Psst again. If you {or a younger family member} is an AG fan, please go here, and enter the quiz contest! My sister would appreciate it so much. Thank you! :)

The Summer List, Revisited

Hello!

It seems that September started without my permission. I really, really like fall, I just wasn’t prepared for it *quite* yet. Anyhoo, I did not have enough time to come up with a photo for my usual “Hello, …” post for each first of each month, so please enjoy this fun doodle from the always lovely Chibird :)

Because summer is almost done {I start school on Wednesday.} I thought it would be fun to look back at my Summer List from June to see what I accomplished. I think I did a lot of what I wanted to do, and I created one for the fall as well! Then in November, I can come back and see how I did. Organization is key, my friends.

Read 40 books > 40 books was a lot. I still read over twenty books, which I consider a huge accomplishment! To catch up on the reviews, click here
Try out some new hairstyles > Did! Out of all of them, I’m loving the braided headband and the fishtail the best.
Celebrate my birthday > Thank you to all my lovely family members and many friends who helped me celebrate my birthday! :) See the round-up of my gifts here.
Finish watching Season Two of Sherlock > That cliffhanger was the WORST. Season Three needs to start now.
Bake new recipes > Let’s see, I made chocolate chip cookie dough truffles, cinnamon brownies, homemade oreos, apple muffins, raspberry lemon bars, chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, and white chocolate bars.
Venture into the oh-so scary world of cooking ;) > Do Egg Muffins count?
Go swimming! > This was an easy one!
Watch Season Two of Pretty Little Liars > Ah, my guilty pleasure :) I’ve already moved on to Season Three.
Have a sleepover with my friends > No worries! There will always be opportunities for sleepovers later this fall.
Go shopping > How else would I be able to get my Back-to-School Wardrobe? :)
Run more {starting with this plan.} > Every Saturday morning, I went to a running and conditioning program. Let’s just say I began to *kind of* dislike Saturday mornings.
Become stronger {using Seventeen‘s and GL‘s lovely summer workouts.} > I did a lot of workouts, so, yes, I think I became stronger.
Eat frozen yogurt :) > Pinkberry and IKEA!
DIY manicure > My Minnie Mouse nail polish was used a LOT. Hehe.
Take LOTS of photos > Not as much as I would have liked, but I’m sure I will be able to take lots in the fall as well.
Play tennis > I think I played close to 100 games with my sister.
Make a chalk town > Nope, but I did make a purty chalkboard wall.
Create a summery playlist > This was fun! I’m thinking of sharing it with you all soon…
Travel > Unfortunately, I stayed mostly at home this year, but I did make a few day trips.
Organize my room > Thankfully, I was able to keep my room clean! I’ll need to keep it up during the school year.
Survive the heat :) > I survived! Hot weather is the worse.
Customize my blog > This is an ongoing thing. You all understand.
Try going media free for a day {we’ll see how that goes…} > This didn’t happen.
See Brave, Madagascar 3, Ice Age 4 {?}, and the Katy Perry thing > I didn’t see the other movies, but I did catch Brave! See my review here.
Watch Bye, Bye Birdie and listen to the soundtrack > eek! Rehearsals start on Thursday, and I haven’t even listened to the soundtrack. I’m going to be the best stage manager :)
Write a story > We’ll try again this season.
Get up to 100 followers {hopefully. no pressure or anything.} >Yay! All 110 of you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Stretch and do yoga daily > I missed a few days, but it was close enough.
Plan for next year > I have so much fun getting ready for the new school year! My clothing is picked out, my backpack is all set, and I’m ready for Wednesday!

During September, October, and November, I would like to try doing these…

  • Read 15 books
  • Write a story
  • Customize my blog
  • Try going media-free for a day
  • Cook
  • Take lots of photos
  • Keep exercising! :)
  • Finish watching Downton Abbey Season Two.
  • Go pumpkin-picking
  • Play board games
  • Roast marshmallows
  • Corn maze!
  • See all the fall movies {I, of course, am too lazy to write them all :)}

What would you like to do in the fall?

Have a lovely night!

Bella :)

a birthday celebration

Hi!

I love birthdays. Like loooove birthdays :) The cake, the presents, and spending time with family and friends all to celebrate one person’s special day is something I look forward to all year.

Yesterday was my birthday. After two months a few days of counting down, the day arrived. Laid back and stress free, I went to the library, played Scrabble, and, of course, had cake.

Let’s see what I got, shall we?

Emma: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)

emma

I have been dying to read this, so why not enjoy it with a lovely cover? It’s stunning in person.

I am obsessed with typography, and this book is all about FONTS! This will be so fun to take out on long afternoons.

By the same people who made Hyperactivitytypography from A to Z, this one focuses on graphic design. I am about 50% the way through!

florence and the machine concert tickets

I am SO excited to see Florence and the Machine in concert! Her songs are some of the most played on my iPod.

Kilty Suede Moc Softsole

minnetonka moccasins

Don’t these look comfortable? I think they will make perfect footwear for the fall.

doll moccasins

And, of course, the dolls needed some too :)

the sweet savannah dress

I have to say that AG is stepping out of their comfort zone a little. The dress is currently on Ruthie, and it is gorgeous on her!

the weekend fun outfit

Quite possibly my favorite outfit from American Girl. It looks so cute on my doll, Hannah! {MyAG #38?}

That was my present round-up, with a few more on the way :)

Have a delightful day!

Bella :)

Psst. A few items of note.

[1] Thanks to all of the lovely family members who gave me these! Love you all :)

[2] So, Danielle won Design Star. Interesting.

[3] And Felix left Master Chef. {which, in my opinion, she did not deserve to go.}

[4] I just realized that I never posted this month’s Style Snapshot! My apologies. I will start back up again in August.
